Nice Value 31″ QHD matte-finish monitor for <$300, February 28, 2018

By IBuyTooMuchStuff –

Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

This review is from: Acer EB321HQU Awidpx 32″ WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS Monitor (Display Port, HDMI & DVI port) (Personal Computers)

i guess i am the first to review this monitor. First, let me say what i use it for and what i replaced. i replaced a 27″ AOC 1080p (FHD) IPS monitor so the increase in size (31.5″) and QHD (1440p) is a nice upgrade. you can’t deny that it is a pleasing experience on the eye, I use this monitor for watching streaming video (not really movies, but YouTube/Twitch, etc.), document review, email browsing, and personal video playback and light editing. i am NOT a video professional, content creator, PC gamer, etc. With that said, this is a really nice monitor for the size and resolution for the price (~$250 at time of purchase). i saw no other monitor at this price point (closest was a 32″ IPS QHD AOC monitor for $299 Amazon choice). If you are prosumer, professional, content creator, graphic/photo editor, hardcore PC gamer, you might want better specs.

Likes:
31.5″ screen size is a lot of screen. no need for more than one monitor for me with this much screen space.
1440p (QHD) looks clean and sharp at the 2-3 ft viewing distance that i have it at (i’m sure closer might be more pixelated; my eyes aren’t that great anyways as i get older)
stylish minimal bezels (~0.6″), black border with a slight white outline (from the white back)
stand can be angled (but NOT raised/lowered)

Not-likes:
although it is IPS, for some reason changing the viewing angle does seem to change the relative brightness, but not necessarily the colors or picture quality (not sure why), may have something to do with the size of the monitor and the anti-glare (matte) screen finish, therefore i wouldn’t recommend if you plan to have multiple people viewing it simultaneously
Screen does not really get that bright (i use the graphics setting which seems brightest to me)

Neutral:
note there are only 3 ports and they are all different: 1 HDMI, 1 Display Port (they do include a DP-to-DP cable), 1 DVI

Overall, a nice value 32″ QHD monitor for the light to moderate user

Good monitor for a good price, April 8, 2018

I really enjoy this monitor so far. After more than half a decade with a 1080p monitor this is a very nice improvement. Pictures and movies look great when you have 1440p or 4K content. I’ve never used a 144hz monitor or one with g-sync or anything like that and I’m not a very competitive gamer so for me this monitor also works very well for gaming at higher resolutions, colors are great. I’m using a two monitor stand currently and the VESA mount on the back of this monitor is a nice touch. I haven’t run into any weird issues with this monitor so far.

Super value in a 2k monitor, April 6, 2018

I almost didn’t buy these because of lack of reviews, not just on Amazon, but everywhere. These things are sleepers and don’t seem very popular. I don’t know why, they are beautiful 2k monitors with HDMI, DVI, and DP connections, and have 100mm VESA mounts. They are very light and easy to mount on an arm. I bought 3 of these and all were perfect, no dead pixels, etc. Just all around fantastic monitor for a great price.

Really nice entry level 4k monitor, November 1, 2016

Really nice entry level 4k monitor. I was a bit hesitant to buy this one because of the lack of reviews around the web. Decided the price was worth it and might as well give it a try. Turned out to be a great purchase, not perfect but still really great. I’ve been using it for doing art and animation, and of course 4k gaming. It’s color isn’t as nice as a 90%+ Adobe RGB, but LG’s S-IPS panels still have great color, a step above most monitors, especially around this price point. Gaming is a dream on this thing, so sharp and crisp, truly glorious. Here are some Pro’s and Con’s:

Pros:
-4k… duh
-10 bit color (8+A-FRC)
-S-IPS panel (great viewing angles)
– 99%+ sRGB (measured as NTSC 72%) gamut.
– Freesync (only works with AMD cards as of now)
– 5ms on an IPS panel
– 60hz
– Black stabilizer setting, can bring out the details in certain dark images.
– HDCP 2.2

Cons:
– Only 3 inputs, 2 hdmi and 1 display-port (would have liked 1 more display-port)
– Has an anti-glare coating (it’s not very aggressive like some I’ve seen, but still can cause slight distortion when viewed from above/below at extreme angles)
– At250 cd/m2 it’s not on the high end of peak brightness, but not bad either.

Update 1: I thought it might be handy to add a little section on setting up the PS4 Pro with this monitor. I took me awhile to realize how to get it working to display at 4k. You need to have a newer hdmi cable (2.0, the monitor comes with a short one) and you need to enable the setting for HMDI UHD deep color, this enables RGB 4:4:4 chroma signals to pass over HMDI so it can talk to the PS4 Pro. This setting is under Menu>Picture>Picture Adjust>HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color. This setting is common among LG 4k devices, so if you have an issue on another LG product w/ ps4 Pro, make sure it’s enabled. You may also need to change RGB settings on the PS4 Pro to “Full”.

Update 2: I wanted to update with the settings I found best for my panel, in terms of color and brightness, etc. May not be universal, but could give a ballpark of what you may want.

Brightness: 69
Contrast:67
Black Stabilizer: 35

RGB:
Red: 55
Green: 53
Blue: 53

Six Color:
RedH: 50
RedSat:61
GreenH:55
GreenSat:61
BlueH:62
BlueSat:62
YellH:51
YellSat:55
MagH:52
MagSat:62
CyanH:50
CyanSat:58

Note for Xbox one X users:
You cannot use freesync since it is display port only. You have to change the settings on the monitor under picture adjust>>turn on HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color before the xbox one x will allow 4k.

Once enabled go into settings>>display and sound>>advanced video settings>> then check the following in pictures. Once that is done you can change the resolution from 1080p to 4k uhd.

Never lucky, December 14, 2016

Was really excited for this monitor but unfortunately it has significant backlight bleed (see attached pictures), and a very noticeable dead black pixel (s). First picture is monitor at 100% brightness. The second picture is set at 50% brightness.

Other then that this is a great 4k IPS budget monitor.

I’m going to try and get a replacement. Hopefully that one has less bleed. Unfortunately when I do replace it amazon will then try to sell this same monitor as like new and then someone else will have to deal with these issues.

Very nice monitor for the price. I own a 24″ monitor and this is a huge upgrade from both screen real estate and picture quality. The design and build quality on this monitor is also very good. It comes with both VGA and HDMI connections. Does not come with speakers but i wouldn’t take a star away since most monitor speakers are not very decent anyway. I’m able to look at multiple windows at a time now with the extra screen area I’m getting compared to the old.

Solid for 1080p @ 27″ range, January 9, 2017

Solid performer for 1080p console gaming and moderate pc(Mac) use. I love the light sensing adjusting brightness, it’s easy to disable, but I find it useful. Colors are decent out of the box (to my eyes). Running a ps4 (better performance than expected) and a 2012 Mac mini flawlessly. This is the newer version of last years similar model, based in its reviews I gambled on this, I dig it.

Love this monitor. Pixel density isn’t the highest however that leaves more space between me and the monitor for other things and I don’t have to hunch over to see small details. Great black levels, best used with brightness intelligence enabled all the time. Cinema mode is great. Colors appear quite accurate. Reds certainly pop more than other colors. Speakers are quiet but windows settings can help by turning on “loudness equalization”, however I use a nice pair of headphones if i want to immerse myself in sound quality.

I was considering getting a cheap IPS display but went for this VA and I’m not disappointed. I looked into the HDR version a little and kind of wish I spent the little extra for it, however HDR is one of those inconsistent technologies so i’ve read.

Note: I had to change dynamic output range to full in nvidia control panel for the full color range this monitor supports. It defaults to limited. You may have to do the same for AMD graphics cards, I’m not sure.

Wondering about your iMac? It works perfectly for me 1440 resolution works. No flicker., April 29, 2018

This review is from: BenQ EW2770QZ 27″ 2560×1440 IPS Entertainment Monitor, Ultra Slim Bezel, Eye Care, 100% sRGB/Rec709, HDMI, DP Input, Speakers , 60Hz refresh rate (Personal Computers)

Why is this monitor worth it? For me it’s because my iMac was 2560×1440 resolution, but to have more than one monitor, you need the ancillary monitor to have the same vertical resolution, if you’re to align the two monitors. Most 27″ monitors are 1080 lines of vertical. This is not just an inferior 2nd monitor, it basically dumbs down the first one to 1080 if you are going to have any windows that split between the two screens.

This monitor is functioning well with a 27″ iMac. I spent the extra money primarily to get the 1440 vertical resolution, which matched my 2011 iMac. I’ve read the other reviews with problems with this monitor switching, etc. I have not had that problem and the monitor is functioning correctly with both 2560×1440 resolution, and it is not “disconnecting” itself and reconnecting. This concern almost kept me from purchasing, because the monitor it was replacing was having that exact problem.

It’s important to know that the cable was important. I initially plugged the monitor in with an hdmi cable. Wether this was the result of the cable or my video card I don’t konw, but the 1440 resolution was not an option in my monitors menus (1080 as the highest resolution that showed). I purchased a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable (link below) and immediately the 1440 option was present. Since then, the Monitor has performed swimmingly.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013PWQN1Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For reference, my iMac was:
27-inch, Mid-2011
Processor 3.4GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 32GB 1333MHz DDR3 (this is aftermarket upgrade)
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048MB
